07 September 2001 — Aspiring Writer (0)

A little known piece of trivia about J.D. is that I want to be a writer, and always have. I lack discipline, however, and am losing what talent at writing I once had. And I'm aging. What seemed exciting and possible at twenty now seems less so at thirty-two. I'm not dead yet, however, and I keep making abortive attempts to return to writing. I'm about to make another, and hope that it is more successful than previous attempts.

Another little known piece of trivia about J.D. is that Bob Costas and Garrison Keillor are my two modern-day heroes. Especially Garrison Keillor. I just read a small essay by Keillor about how he writes, and though it is small and lacks anything to inspire the average Joe, I found it motivational. My reading lately has been prompting me to write, and this small piece has pushed me over the edge.

It must be to sign up for another community college creative writing course, and time to begin the practice of disciplined writing.

2005The End of Comic Book Movies?   Marvel Entertainment, publishers of some of my favorite comic books from childhood, has concluded a financing deal that grants the company a $525 million line of credit to make up to ten films based on its properties. I'm skeptical of the move.

2004Yet Another House Update   Our list of home-improvement projects never gets shorter; new projects rise to replace the old ones we retire.

2003Hello, Autumn   In which I listen to the rhythm of the falling rain.
