22 October 2001 — Off Kilter (0)

Alas, the Mariners have lost to my new most-hated team, the New York Yankees. Bah.

The weekend started cool and crisp and sunny, but turned soggy by Sunday. Today was very damp, even blustery at times. On the drive home from work, I came upon an accident that had occurred only minutes earlier. An SUV had overturned and struck a telephone pole (though the order of these two events may have been reversed). The telephone pole was split, and lay partially in the road. Wires were down. Nobody was trying to help the possible occupants of the vehicle, because a) they were okay or b) they were beyond help or c) the downed wires made it too dangerous. Emergency vehicles were arriving as I negotiated the curves in which the wreck occurred.

I built another computer this weekend. On Friday, I bought all of the components at Fry's Electronics. They didn't work. I've had poor experiences with their computer parts before, and I didn't have the time to futz with things this weekend, so I just returned most of the parts. They reluctantly took them back.

On Saturday I bought replacement parts at PC Heidens, and the computer went together in 45 minutes! I felt guilty, though, because I had promised Nick that I would play Diablo with him on Friday, and had promised Todd that I would help paint his house on Saturday, but I was unable to follow through with either commitment due to the trouble with the computer parts.

Kris and I had a nice, romantic day together yesterday. We spent the afternoon together, being busy around the house. I made some more Thai food. She made peanut brittle. In the evening, we had dinner at her favorite restaurant, South Park. We wanted to see Ghost World, but I got my theaters crossed up. Instead, we drove back to Canby and rented You Can Count on Me. We both thought the movie excellent in every respect. I highly recommend it.

Kris and I have both felt ill lately, though I seem to be sicker than she is. We don't have anything concrete, just sore throats and sinus trouble and headaches and general exhaustion. Fortunately, I didn't take today off from work. Jeff didn't come in because he's still recovering from dental surgery on Friday, Tom called in sick, and Daniel couldn't make it in either. We were very short-handed, and the early afternoon was quite hectic.
