I finally compiled my summer digital photos using iPhoto on my new iBook. The application has a nice interface, but it's very limited in what it will actually do. It automates the transfer of digital photos between various devices, collates the photos, and allows you to crop them. Also, iPhoto will allow you to compose slide shows and scrapbooks. That's about it. A more appropriate name for it would be: iScrapbook. One of my chief complaints is that you can't resize a photo with iPhoto; resizing is one of the operations I perform most often on photographs.
I'm not the photographer that Mac is, but here are ten of the photos from the batch I just processed. Click on a detail below to open a larger picture in this browser window. Use the back button to return to this page.
| Simon and Kris are developing a bond. This makes them both happy. He would like to spend more time outside, and is still a bedwetter, but we love him. | |
| Simon is keen on play. He stalks everything, including us. He caught one bird this summer. His favorite game is hiding in the Japanese maple and pouncing on us as we pass. | |
| Though he's spending more time with us lately, Simon's attention span is still rather short. Here he's losing interest in the pepper harvest and trying to decide whether the bike is a toy. | |
| Toto gets along surprisingly well with Simon. (Remember: she hated Satchel.) She is not affectionate toward Simon, but she tolerates him, and sbe even interacts with him when she feels so inclined. | |
| A photo from Oregon's victory over Idaho. We had good seats, though you can't tell from this shot. | |
| In August, we played paintball for Joel's birthday. Here Aimee, Pam, and Kris strike a pose. Don't mess with these women. | |
| My brother, Tony, joined us for paintball. We all had fun, though it was a bit warm. I look forward to playing paintball again. | |
| Joel throws himself whole-heartedly into every activity in which he participates. Paintball is no exception, as his flesh wounds can attest. | |
| Later in August, Kris and I joined Mac and Pam at the Clackamas County Fair. We bumped into Jennifer Gingerich and her children near the petting zoo, which included these goats. | |
| I wanted to photograph Harrison petting the goats. I learned long ago that the pictures of children that I want are a far cry from those that I can actually get. Especially with a digital camera. Instead, I snapped this photo of a little girl I've never met. |
I've a vacation day scheduled tomorrow, but I can't remember why. No matter: I'll take the day off and relax. I hope I hadn't scheduled it off in order to pick up some long-lost relative at the airport.

2005 — Personal Day In which I stay home from work to clean, fix steaks, listen to Motown, and play Diablo II.
2004 — Slugs Unfortunately, my spinach and lettuce plants are well-liked by the local slugs.
