When I get older, losing my hair, many years from now
Will you still be sending me a valentine,
Birthday greeting, bottle of wine?
Thanks, everyone, for your birthday e-mails, phone calls, and cards. Special thanks to Jeff, Jeremy, and Andrew for the unexpected birthday dinner. I appreciate the warm regards.
Andrew and I have been playing a little Starcraft this week. I miss this game. It's one of my favorites, but I haven't played much of it during the past year. I don't play computer games nearly as much as I used to. Newer, flashier games have replaced Starcraft on my hard drive, though none of these stay for long.
The sunset tonight was beautiful, though in a strange way. Most beautiful sunsets are made so by the play of the light on the clouds, and the clouds play a strong architectural role in the beauty (for lack of a better way of expressing it). Tonight the clouds were dull, merely serving as a canvas for the warm orange light, the golden light, the purple light, the swift color changes as the sun sank beneath the horizon. Several great shafts of light splayed beneath the cloud cover—just like you see in paintings—and the sky simply glowed. It was awesome. (What causes the shafts of light? Does anyone know?)
