When Simon first came to live with us, he had a problem discerning the bed from the litter box. (He sometimes had a problem discerning me from the litter box.) We persevered, though, and he's got the trick figured out now.

Now his flaw is that he torments his sister. Toto's a bit territorial, and she gets upset when Simon comes in from outside. Simon knows she's upset, but rather than leave her alone, he goads her until they're both hissing and growling and, sometimes, brandishing claws.
He's a rascal.

Simon is social, but he's not a lap cat. He likes to be in the room when we have company, and he's especially tolerant of children; he lets the kids dote on him and pet him.
Kris is his favorite person. He rarely spends time with me, but he'll follow Kris from room-to-room, and he generally comes when she calls him. She carries him around in her arms, his paws dangling front-and-back, and he purrs. They've bonded.

Simon is a playful cat, very kittenish. He likes to chase and to be chased. He's a fearless fly hunter, often eating several of the bugs in quick succession. He'd move from bugs to birds if he weren't a bit clumsy.
His favorite game is shoelace. We have two thick shoelaces that he drags around the house. Several times a day, one of us will pick up a shoelace and play with him. Simon has a boundless puppyish enthusiasm for such games.

Simon's also a very beautiful cat. Though his size is rather normal, he looks huge: long and thick.
His has mundane markings, but he bears them well, and my camera loves him. He's been the source of some of my best photographs. I only wish that he weren't so fidgety, that he'd sit still so that I could frame a shot now and then.

2005 — Self-Medication Because of my recent battle with depression, I've decided that it can't hurt to at least try some natural remedies, remedies I would formerly have eschewed.
2004 — My Liberal Agenda In which I post two articles from elsewhere, one a letter-to-the-editor from the mother of a gay son, and the other an op-ed piece blasting Bush.
Those are amazing photos. Neither of my cats are very photo-friendly at all. Don't you find that cats don't look anything in photographs like they do in real life?
P.S. In case you're interested, I moved my blog, the link in my name is the new url. It's on blogspot now, so it's a "real" blog now (the comments make logical sense now).
