25 August 2003 — The Doldrums (8)

Odd: nearly every weblog I read seems to have sunk into a sort of a morass, as if time were moving s-l-o-w-l-y. Not even the Big Names have escaped this swamp of listlessness. Updates are infrequent. Posts are short or aimless. The always-great Tony Pierce hit a bit of a funk earlier in the month (though he seems to have pulled out of it now). Even participation at community weblogs such as metafilter seems to be down. (Fortunately, some people seem to still be in the groove.)

You know what? I don't much feel like writing, either…

Talk amongst yourselves.

On this day at foldedspace.org

2004Horticulture   I've thought more about it, and the hawthorn is a nice, old tree, one perfectly placed to screen a couple of other neighbor houses.

I too have noticed this, many times in the past, every weblog seems to get lazy at once. I've been waiting for weeks to see anything on kottke.org change...not even the remaindered links (which are edited by two people) have moved an inch. Even I had been lacking the past few weeks, but I attribute that to my big waiting-for-money-to-arrive-to-Verve-Hosting-fiasco. But now its arrived and I have my own server and domain name and have been blogging up a storm...maybe this marks the end of the current weblog hibernation.

How ironic is it that Yahoo!'s spam-filter weeds out messages from Yahoo!Games? If I have my chess games forwarded to my Yahoo! e-mail account, they're classified as spam. I love it! :)

Well now! I feel like writing but I'm brain dead. Everytime I try to write my mind just goes numb. It seems like the more I have to write the less I write. I attribute this to the fact that I have been strangely tired of late and my mind just refuses to put my fingers in gear. If I had my way I would gather together five or six girlfriends and rent a beach house for a few weeks; no kids, no husband, no phone, no housework, no meals to prepare. Just a bunch of friends, good conversation, the roar of the ocean, a few iced drinks. In the evening we would enjoy tea around a blazing fire and watch the mist and fog roll in. Oh take me away! I really need a break. I mean really and truly!

After reading J.D.'s account of his camping trip, all I want is a picnic. It would be nice to leisurely sit to a picnic table and chat with a friend. I would hope there would not be a hurried dead line. And, (sigh) I wish it could be done without a beloved spouse at my side. On second thought I think it would be fun if Stan and I could go on a picnic with J.D. and Kris. I would like to get to know them better.
And It's been so long since I've had a good talk with Sue. Oh, the ideas are endless.

Hmm, my comment up above has found a glitch in your justified text...well not a glitch, but it's interesting, nontheless. Funny thing is I never even noticed you used justified text until now.

P.S. it only looks weird when viewed on the main page, which has a thinner content area than the archive version of this entry...

JD,

I really enjoyed the camping postings, they made me very homesick (AJ too).

I am always amazed at how dedicated you are by having a new entry almost every day. By your own admission (and an earlier entry) self-discipline is not you strong suit (you're among friends here) but you seem to be very "regular" with your blog. I guess it's something you truly love and not a duty or chore. I guess when it becomes that you'll have to move on.

I know you're not fishing for compliments but I've been thinking this for awhile.

Paul

Where oh where has Jd gone?
Oh where, oh where can he be?
With his entrys cut short,
And the comments so long
Oh where, oh where can he be?

To be sung to the tune of "Oh where, oh where, has my little dog gone?"
