05 October 2003 — Raspberry Swirl (7)

In the Sexy Songs thread, somebody suggested "Raspberry Swirl" by Tori Amos. The song has a driving beat which might be considered sexy, I suppose, but the lyrics, like many Tori Amos lyrics, make little sense.

Raspberry Swirl by Tori Amos

I am not your senorita
I am not from your tribe
In the garden I did no crime

I am not your senorita
I am not from your tribe
If you want inside her
Boy you better make her raspberry swirl

Things are getting desperate
When all the boys can't be men
Everybody knows I'm her friend
Everybody knows I'm her man

I'm not your senorita
I don't aim so high
In my heart I do no crime
If you want inside her
Boy you better make her raspberry swirl

This is yet another in a long line of Tori Amos songs that I cannot decipher. Cornflake Girl? Silent All These Years? I mean, really, what the hell are those songs about?

You know how some weekends you do a lot of fun stuff but you never actually recharge your batteries?

It was one of those weekends.

I had stuff scheduled from Friday night until Sunday night (and, really, the scheduling goes all the way back to Wednesday), and even had to decline opportunities for fun (sorry, Nicole). I managed to squeeze in a bit of my writing homework, but didn't actually write the 28-sentence story. I didn't get any chores done around the house, either. Kris and I took the time to watch one of our Netflix DVDs, but that's the only spare time I had.

A fun but exhausting weekend.

2005Lost   What if this low-grade melancholia that's been dogging me for the past year isn't a result of biology or psychology, but a product of memory?

2004Subtle   Mostly, it's what is unsaid that is important.

*ahem* I will confess up front that I am a Very Big Tori Fan. That being said, most of her songs don't make sense to me, either. My interest in her music has very little to do with her lyrics.

However. I could be mistaken, but it's always been my impression that Raspberry Swirl is an allusion to cunnilingus.

After all, some would call her a cunning linguist.

(sorry, I couldn't resist!)

Hmmm. After reading the comment and the lyrics again, I think that she's got you on that one. One mystery down. Next song?

Yes, well, I do believe Amanda's right. When I was thinking "sexy song", my mind hadn't wandered in that direction. Now that it has wandered in that direction, it all seems rather obvious. I like the song even better now! :)

ok, this interpretation was from the lips of tori herself. on one of my local stations, they were broadcasting an interview and then her live concert from the club tour at chicago. during the interview she said that this song is about her best girlfriend. its her love song to her. its about how all the guys dont get what shes about. shes so wonderful and they cant/wont see that. and tori said (in so many words) that the only thing stopping her from like marrying raspberry swirl girl is the fact that "i dont eat hair pie".
