19 October 2003 — Tenacious (18)

Do you think it's any coincidence that the only pople I know who have managed to kick this bug are the ones that have gone to the doctor and been prescribed antibiotics? Kris and I were feeling better yesterday, but today has been nasty. Lots of sleep, lots of nose blowing, and a fever again for me. Grrrr.

At book group last night, Joel and Aimee still seemed to be under the bug's spell a bit, too. Craig, though, had recently kicked it with the help of drugs.

Tomorrow it's back to the office where the four of us will complain about our weekend of sickness...

This weekend I received a letter that I've been awaiting for nearly a decade. I really want to write about it, but I can't. It's a Significant Event in my life, though, and it makes me happy.

This archive of old-time radio shows is too good to be delegated to Miscellaneous Flotch. Great stuff.

On this day at foldedspace.org

2004Broken Glass   A couple of weeks ago young Emma smashed a pane of glass in the door to our back porch. I felt miserably qualified to make the repair, so I put it off as long as I could.

2002Fall Thoughts   This afternoon I walked over to the high school and practiced punting the soccer ball. When I was satisfied with my progress, I sprawled on the grass and basked in the dull October sun.

Uh Huh. My first ten days of amoxicillon didn't touch what I had. I'm now on some other thing thats five day stuff that starts with a Z. Oh just thought of it. Zithromax! It's much stronger and I think I'm finally going to get better.

Has anybody else noticed that antibiotics are starting to sound like greek cheeses, or is it just me?

And by the way Jd I'm the worlds most curious person. You should never have commented on that letter. Now I wont be able to sleep for wondering what it could be about. How dare you! I'm going to go pout!

JD, I agree with Tammy! I'm lying awake now myself, burning with curiosity over your letter. I'm happy for you, that you've had a Significant Event, but that's really an unfair tease.

Sorry that I'm unwilling to be more specific. Suffice it to say that I've reconnected with an old friend, and that if things go well I'll share more in time...

Hmmm... I bet I know who this "old friend" is!

As far as the illness thing goes, don't waste your time by going to the doctor. It is just a virus that has to run its course. What doesn't kill you only makes you stronger!

If anything, get a flue shot. Then next time you get this crap, you will be able to go through all the symptoms in one weekend and be done with it.

psst... what are pople?

You can't hide winnings like that forever, J.D. Sooner or later the IRS will find you out.:) How 'bout telling that old friend to write to her old family relation?

J.D. has more 'old friend that he's lost contact with' in his closet than I have skeletons!

Was he really bad at keeping in touch with people just in his youth, or is it a life-long thing? Is he better now that he has technology on his side?

I guess time will tell.......

On 20 October 2003 (09:50 AM), Dana said:

No, he's still pretty bad at it. Technology has merely added extra anxiety to the process, I think. He's more keenly aware of how easy it would be to respond, but he still doesn't to it...

(Not that I can talk, really)

I was right! But, I am not at liberty to elaborate. Kristin gave quite a big hint up there, but I don't think it will help most of you.

Doesn't everybody lose contact with old friends? Or is that just a Roth thing?

It's not just a Roth thing. I know lots of people who have lost touch with their friends over the years.

But, Denise is right. I do have a lot of friends with whom I've lost contact. I regained Dave in 1997, but this year has been an absolute banner year: Nicole, Denise, Jim, Andrew P. (again), and now this Mystery Person. (Perhaps.) Just two more left: Mitch Sherrard and Amy R. (again).

It's the year of re-contact! :)

Thanks to Kristin now I don't have to wait until (M)onday (N)ight (F)ootball to find out about the mystery person. The funny thing is I was just thinking about this person (and family) yesterday afternoon. Interesting that you would hear from this person now. I hope you are able to reconnect.

I was thinking that this was a frustrating tease to do to a mother (what could be that important in her child's life that he wouldn't be willing to share?) but I'm quite sure I know what you're talking about and I'm very happy for you. (Thanks, Kristin.) :-)

On 20 October 2003 (02:04 PM), Tammy said:

Well I'm thinking it's a pretty frusterating thing to do to any of us but unlike a lot of you I wont know the person if I do find out so whats the point? Other than that I hate not knowing a secret told smack in front of my face.

Bah to you and yours!

On 20 October 2003 (02:11 PM), Jeff said:

Sorry Tammy. It's JD's secret to tell, not ours.

True, Jeff, and besides, what if I'm wrong? (It's happened before a time or two.) :-)
