17 June 2004 — Moving (12)

Mary Jo called tonight. She's moved out. We can get into the new house any time.

Do you know what that means?

That's right: lots of silence in foldedspace-land.

Why not check out some of the other weblogs I host here:

And to bide the time til my return, why don't you share other weblogs you like, other must-visit web sites you enjoy.

Tell us how you use the web. Because I probably won't be using it much for a few days. :)

(Actually, consider this comments section your virtual scratch-pad. Share a story! Argue about gay rights! Convert each other to your respective religions. Just keep the party going til I get back...)

On this day at foldedspace.org

2005Cold Fusion   ...we headed to the Viper Room to catch Cold Fusion's monthly set.

2003The Big Tree   One summer we discovered a paper sack at the base of the tree. We couldn’t believe what the sack contained: girlie magazines and lots of them!

2001Bookhounds   A long silence yields a collection of random thoughts, mostly about books.

Notorious? Why couldn't mine have been called witty or clever? Or, or, or something! NOTOTRIOUS? What an awful adjective.

Where's Dana? Wanna debate?

My list of things to do today
vacum house
pick up Anna Lise from birthday party
take kids swimming.
Fold the towels
wash another load
make bread before it gets hot
do all the outside watering

Outside watering? Yikes, I forgot that's one of the reasons I got up early. I gotta run!

One site that I quite enjoy, but haven't spent a lot of time exploring, is Making Light.

Making Light is a book editor. Her weblog is filled with all sorts of interesting book-related stuff (like the bit over in the flotch right now about rejetion slips). She writes about other points of interest, too, though (inclusing knitting!).

As I say, I haven't explored Making Light thoroughly, but I want to.

By the way: has anyone else felt it? Do you know what kind of day today is? That's right! A Def Leppard Pyromania day! Why don't you join me, plop in your cassette (or load up your mp3s) and let's all rock rock 'til we drop.

This song reminds me so much of summer:

Rock of Ages
by Def Leppard

Gunter glieben glauchen globen
Alright
I got something to say
Yeah, it's better to burn out
Yeah, than fade away
All right
Ow
Gonna start a fire
C'mon!

Rise up! gather round
Rock this place to the ground
Burn it up let's go for broke
Watch the night go up in smoke
Rock on! (rock on!)
Drive me crazier, no serenade
No fire brigade, just pyromania, c'mon

What do you want? what do you want?
I want rock'n'roll, yes i do
Long live rock'n'roll

Oh let's go, let's strike a light
We're gonna blow like dynamite
I don't care if it takes all night
Gonna set this town alight, c'mon

What do you want? what do you want?
I want rock'n'roll, alright!
Long live rock'n'roll, oh yeah

Rock of ages, rock of ages
Still rollin', keep a-rollin'
Rock of ages, rock of ages
Still rollin', rock'n'rollin'

We got the power, got the glory
Just say you need it and if you need it
Say yeah!
Ooh yeah
Heh heh heh heh

Now listen to me
I'm burnin', burnin', i got the fever
I know for sure, there ain't no cure
So feel it, don't fight it, go with the flow
Gimme, gimme, gimme, gimme one more for the road

What do you want? what do you want?
I want rock'n'roll, you betcha
Long live rock'n'roll

Rock of ages, rock of ages
Still rollin', keep a-rollin'
Rock of ages, rock of ages
Still rollin', rock'n'rollin'

We got the power, got the glory
Just say you need it and if you need it
Say yeah!
Say yeah!
We're gonna burn this damn place down, woo hoo
Down to the ground

Heh heh heh heh heh heh heh heh heh heh heh heh

I'm in a good mood, as you can probably believe.

Now I've gotta go do the invoicing so that I can get out of this place when Tom gets back with the van...

It took me forEVER to get this line down without slurring it all together.

Ok - although Hysteria was not as good as Pyromania it wasn't all bad.

Any thoughts about Dave Winder pulling the plug on Weblogs.com?
When foldedspace grows to over 3,000 bloggers will your teats run dry, JD?
Also, did you realize that the drummer from Def Leppard only had one arm? It's amazing what people were able to accomplish after coming home from World War II. You folks truly are the greatest generation!

EDIT: That should be Dave Winer.

The drummer for Def Leppard had both arms for Pyromania. I think it was only sometime after that he lost one.

I have no problems with Dave Winer pulling the plug on weblogs.com. I do think it would have been keen of him to give people 24 hours notice so they could make backups, but then he's offering to forward backups to anyone who wants them, so it'll probably work out the same.

I'll never host that many webloggers! And so long as y'all learn to post small images, my teats will never run dry. Well, maybe never. :)

We've completed one trip to the new house and are now loading up the second.

Good news for our volunteers: the wallpaper, at least in the spots we've tested, comes off like buttah! I don't want to jinx anything, but I think it's possible we might actually be priming walls tonight and painting tomorrow. Fingers crossed and all that.

The drummer for Def Leppard lost his arm in an automobile accident after the Pyromania tour. He then created the keen foot pedal system he uses to make up for not having both arms. I saw Def Leppard in the round for the Hysteria tour and it was actually very cool to watch him play.

J.D. - you are taking before and after shots of this move/wallpaper transformation - yes?
