19 June 2004 — Peeling Wallpaper (2)

Saturday morning. Only time for a brief update.

Yesterday was very productive. With the help of friends, we moved another vanload of boxes; we finished stripping wallpaper in the dining room; we began stripping wallpaper in the study; we moved potted plants.

Resigned to fact the that something must be done with walls, I phoned a dozen drywall contractors. Several of them responded by scheduling appointments to come out and take a look at the walls so that they could provide suggestions and give us estimates.

Suddenly the bathroom remodel, which has always been our top priority, has been bumped down the list. It'd be nice to get it done this year, but it may have to wait until next. Our top priority now is to get the three main rooms — dining room, parlor, den — finished and beautiful. This may soak up money we'd allocated for the bathroom remodel.

Today is the big day: Moving Day. We have about fifteen people scheduled to help us in some capacity or other. It seems like too many, really, but who knows? If we can get a few volunteers to scrape wallpaper after we move, then it'll all be worth it.

Major thank-yous to Aimee and Joel, Mackenzie, and Michael, who spent their Friday afternoon (and morning) working on our house and giving us advice. You guys are awesome.

I'd really like to make some sort of commerative something honoring those people who helped us move. Any ideas? I thought we could have everyone sign the steps, but that's not ideal. Then I thought we could everyone sign something. I don't know what that something would be, though. I just want to have a permanent reminder of everyone who helped us. We really appreciate the assistance.

2005Sunny Sunday   We passed a slow and lazy weekend, the kind I love so much.

2003Please Please Please   In so very many ways I was a typical angst-filled teenager of the mid-1980s. I never bought all the way in, though: I didn't like The Smiths.

2002Crow in the Road   Can animals become suicidal?

2001Nostalgic Reveries   There are four or five primary sources of nostalgia for me, all of the women who were, at one time, close friends.

Our church did a commemorative wall with brick. You could pay to have your name put on it.

You could do something like that. If you need a low brick wall somewhere, maybe by a trailing rose, you could order the bricks with the names of the people on them, or make a garden path with the bricks.

Just a suggestion.

Have them all sign the back of a picture you buy and have framed especially for the new house. You know, on the brown paper covering that framers put on...
