Noah on American Idol

[Tonight, while watching American Idol...]

Noah: I should be on there.

Papa: You should be on American Idol? What song would you sing?

Noah: A train song.

Papa: A train song?

Noah: Yes, 'cause I like trains.

Papa: What train song would you sing?

Noah: The Ice Cream Train song.

Papa: How does that song go?

Noah: Like this... [singing, ad-libbing as he goes]

Sir Handel goes along the railroad,

Sir Handel
Sir Handel

He pulls the Ice Cream Train
To the Ice Cream Factory

Sir Handel
Sir Handel

[Long pause...]

Papa: Is that the end?

Noah: Yeah, 'cause it's a short song, not a long song.

[Who knew it would be the best performance of the evening? :-]

Tapatio

Miss Emily is now one month old, so I guess it's time for me to do an entry on a different subject. So, I will do an entry on my favorite hot sauce, Tapatio.

Tapatio is not the hottest sauce out there, but it offers a nice balance of flavor and spiciness -- without the vinegar taste that comes with Tabasco. If you dump too much on you may be running for ice cubes, but a small amount at a time isn't going to burn your mouth like the habanjero sauces.

Tapatio is one of the staples of my diet, both at work and at home. It is an excellent accompaniment to any Mexican food, but that is not all. I keep a big bottle in the fridge at home, and I put it on everything from pizza to macaroni & cheese (Kraft Dinner, for the Canadians :-) to hamburgers. I have a bottle sitting on my desk at work, too -- to put on all the microwavable mexican-style food that we get from Costco. It is also great for recipes (like quacamole dip, etc.) that call for hot sauce. Or, mix it with Ketchup for a spicy dip for chicken strips -- or mix it with mayo for a hopped-up sandwich spread.

If you like things spicy, I'm pretty sure you will like Tapatio.

Family Photo Shoot

We are trying to get a good photo for Emily's Birth Announcement, so we had a little photo shoot today. We're still not sure we've found the photo, but here are a few taken during the session...

Big Hugs

Tonight, Noah and I were reading stories, as we often do before bedtime. We were reading a story about a little chick that can't find its mother. It was kind of a cliff-hanger there for a few pages, but the little chick does finally find its mama hen (phew). The story ends with the mama hen giving the baby chick a big hug... which led to the following exchange:

Noah: "Why he got a big hug?"

Me: "Because sometimes it feels nice to get a hug."

Noah: "But I don't like big hugs."

Me: "Why not?"

Noah: "Because they squish me!"

Well, I'm sorry son, but with big blue eyes like that, you'd better get used to being squished. :-)
