Big Hugs

Tonight, Noah and I were reading stories, as we often do before bedtime. We were reading a story about a little chick that can't find its mother. It was kind of a cliff-hanger there for a few pages, but the little chick does finally find its mama hen (phew). The story ends with the mama hen giving the baby chick a big hug... which led to the following exchange:

Noah: "Why he got a big hug?"

Me: "Because sometimes it feels nice to get a hug."

Noah: "But I don't like big hugs."

Me: "Why not?"

Noah: "Because they squish me!"

Well, I'm sorry son, but with big blue eyes like that, you'd better get used to being squished. :-)

kids are so honest. they say the cutest things!!

I used to feel a little suffocated by my father's big hugs as well. "I'm hot, I'm hot," I'd protest until he let me go. I sure am glad he never gave up on hugging me, though!

I wish I could "squish" him right now. :-)
