Dancing Emily

Emily is taking tap dance. I was able to go to her lesson today, and it was as cute as could be...

I'll post more later as she improves... :-)

Sunny April Weekend

This past weekend's weather was absolutely positively drop-dead gorgeous.

Saturday brought a few thin, high clouds and a temp right around 70, which made it perfect for getting the yard whipped into shape. We awoke Sunday to perfectly clear blues skies that beckoned one and all to the out-of-doors... and it just so happened that our friends Paul & Pam had invited us to do a little 'family fishing' down at a pond on one of Paul's nurseries. Here is the mayhem that ensued (in glorious 78 degree sunshine)...

It's hard to think of a better way to spend a Sunday afternoon... thanks Paul, Pam, Dustin, PJ and Courtney! :-)

Brutal Honesty From A 6-Year-Old

Noah & Emily's daycare provider, Ericka, is currently expecting a baby boy (due early August?). This morning Noah, a thinker and a talker, let forth another one of his classic comments...

"Ericka, I've been realizing every day that you are just getting fatter and fatter."

I'm sorry Ericka... he must get his brutal honesty from his mother. And thank you for being able to smile about it. :-)

Hello Spring...

What we accomplished over the weekend...

  • Car & Truck washed
  • Lawn mowed [at home]
  • Weeds [mostly] pulled
  • Time spent enjoying sun & 70 degrees

It may only last a few days, but it's been a long time coming, and is it ever gorgeous. I'll spend much of today mowing at the box factory and at my mom's place... provided I don't end up spending all day getting the mower running.

Monday afternoon edit:
  • Lawn mowed [at my mom's]
  • Lawn mowed [at the box factory]
  • Time spent enjoying sun & 76 degrees

For those in the Pacific Northwest, enjoy the sunshine!

Stumptown Coffee Roasters

I am still a fan of BJ's Coffee, and I will still support my local coffee shop when I go for coffee, but I have been seduced by a new coffee roaster: Stumptown Coffee.

The Stumptown French Roast seems to be about the same hue of black as the BJ's West Valley, but the Stumptown is a little smoother, with absolutely zero bitterness or stick-to-the-back-of-your-tongue heaviness -- it is a perfect match with a french press.

I french-press a fresh batch of Stumptown French Roast every morning (except Wednesdays, when I have early morning men's Bible Study), and drink it with raw sugar and half-n-half. To me, it approaches coffee nirvana... the coffee's I've tried that rank on the same level would be Torrefazione, a fine Italian coffee, and Starbuck's Espresso Roast as brewed by Jeremy & Jenn -- those are the other coffees that really stand out in my memory.

For those in the Canby/Molalla area who may want to try some Stumptown beans, you can purchase them at Puddin' River Chocolates in downtown Canby. If you try it and don't like it, you can give the leftover beans to me! :-)
