Welcome to Jethro's World

Where does the name Jethro come from? Well, it is Biblical for one, but that was not the original inspiration behind the nickname. The name really came about several years ago when I had time to play video games on the computer. Me and my good friend Roger Oakes loved racing games (like Need For Speed). His nickname was RaginRog, and I came up with Jethro – a bit of a play on my real name. Since then, Jethro has become my online name on various forums and weblogs.

What is Jethro’s World? Jethro’s World is a chronicle of the life and times of Jeffrey S. Roth, a mild-mannered box maker from Canby, Oregon; and my wife Stephanie, a not-so-mild-mannered dental hygienist (I am going to pay for that comment) hailing from Wembley, Alberta. [Edit: When Steph doesn't have a scary scraping instrument in her hand; she is the most creative, thoughtful, caring, beautiful woman I have ever met! And she is still my hero!] Much of this weblog will be devoted to our son Noah, and the joys of family life. I hope to make this an uplifting and positive site, with emphasis on glorifying God and his creation.

I don’t know how often I will add new entries, but I would hope for a couple times a week. Please feel free to leave any comments and advice for future entries. But be warned, this is a family site, and any comments that are seen as vulgar or negative may be deleted. I am generally in favor of unedited free speech, but I will draw a line in this case. I don’t really want this to turn into a forum for political or theological discussions.

This concludes the first official Jethro’s World blog. Thank you for taking the time to stop by and I wish all of you a wonderful day! (exclamation point for JD's benefit)

Hey you"ll live to regret that comment about your wife! Women never forget. Now get some pics of Noey. And write, young man, write. I wanna hear all about your life. And as far as conroversy? You know, I never intended on controversy on my weblog either. But the longer I write the more it appears that I just AM controversial. What can I say?

Oh. oh, oh. I just clicked on Garden Web on your sidebar thinking it was somebodys weblog and lo and behold it's a gardening site! Thank you, thank you, thank you! I had not found that one before. I'm drooling. (Ok, there I wiped it off)

Ah, she beat me to it. I wanted to be the very first comment on your blog.

I like it!(exclamation point for everyone's benefit!!!)

Nice work Jeff and don't sweat the "not-so-mild-mannered" comment. Made me laugh. :-)

Posted by: Rob at June 9, 2004 11:09 AM

I feel like I should make some introductions here.

Rob- Tammy & Gwen are my first cousins on my dad's side. Tammy & Gwen- Rob is Steph's first cousin on her mom's side. An interesting side note here - Rob's grandparents (Albert & Beulah Cowan) knew Grandma & Grandpa Roth from attending Sunday evening services at Hopewell.

It's a small world, isn't it?

It's great Jeff, I can't wait to see pictures of "blue eyes" :-)

It's gong to be great to come here for a few relaxing moments when I am weary from the all the controversy in the dishpan. :-)

Easy there! What controversy? Haven't you noticed that I'm trying!

Jeff,it's a funny thing about that name Rob. When you wrote, "Rob, Tammy and Gwen I thought for a minute you were talking to me and my sisters. I wondered why in the world you would include Rob in on it. Ha!

Welcome aboard the AWL bus! I am very excited that you have your own blog and expect to see lots and lots of pictures of Noah and your life! Pictures are good, even if their size makes the AWL grumble! ;)

I am linking you right now.

Can somebody tell me why NOBODY will tell me how to put a link on MY site? What is this, some secret known only to an elect few?

Posted by: tammy at June 9, 2004 02:54 PM

Okay, Tammy: I've toggled a switch and you now have permission to edit your templates. To do this, click 'edit templates' from your side menu, then select the appropriate template. In your case, you shouldn't be editing anything other than the main index template.

Looking through the template, you should be able to find the links section. Simply duplicate what you see I've been doing for you, and you should be fine. Click save, and then rebuild, and you're good to go.

Be warned: making a mess of your template is the quickest way to ruin your weblog. If you make a mistake, do not hit save. Just click someplace else and then come back to work on a fresh copy.

Tammy - when I work on my template, I usually copy the good Denise-hasn't-touched-this-yet-and-it-still-works template into word so I have a good copy to reinsert in case I screw up.

I'm glad it's you all figuring out how to do the links and not me -- it sounds thoroughly Greek! I am glad my sons didn't get my non-technical brain.

I like your site, Jeff and Steph, and I'm happy for the explanation of the Jethro name. As for pictures, I would love to see a bunch of Noah shots here but I really like having the real thing, which I will be enjoying tomorrow. :-)

Jeff that is the most beautiful picture, of your wife and babe. It's not only a good picture of Steph and Noah, it is a good picture of "Mother and Child"

BTW, I got a kick out of your cd in theplayer. It so happens that I have veggie tales in my vcr right now. I believe it's King George and the Rubber Duck.

Jethro,

I kind of miss doing the online video game thing!

I love your site Jeff. Thanks for the congrats and a BIG thanks to Steph for the awesome pie! We also thank you for helping to spread the word about Kellan.

How far is Wembley, Alberta from LaCrete?

Posted by: Ron at June 11, 2004 10:50 PM

Wembley is about 4 hours due south of LaCrete. They are both considered to be in the Peace country (a 1 hour drive up there is like a 15 minute drive for us Oregonians).

Posted by: Jeff at June 12, 2004 07:35 AM

Have you driven to Wembley? If so what is the fastest way to get there? I have to go to LaCrete for a wedding and have been looking at the maps and it seems the fastest way would be through Prince George to Dawson Creek and over into Alberta but I haven't talked to anyone that has gone that direction before.

Hey, mild-mannered Jethro with the fearsome scraping-instrument-wielding wife. Didn't know you were such a good writer. Enjoyed your clever stuff. Also enjoy seeing your little redheaded guy periodically riding around 91 School in Pam's arms.

Posted by: Gerry Hosler at June 29, 2004 09:10 AM

Thanks for the kind words, Gerry.

We feel very blessed to have Pam (and Paul & the boys, too) as our day-care provider. Noah lights up every time he sees Dustin and PJ, and they do the same. We feel like they are part of the family (and technically they are - Steph and Paul are 3rd cousins).

We started looking for a sitter right after Noah was born, as we knew Steph's maternity leave would only last so long. We had several leads before he was born, but none of those prospects panned out.

Then one day, Joy Miller suggested we call Pam. It ends up she and Paul had just been discussing her going to work part time. Hmmm...

It has worked out better than we ever could have expected.
