16 January 2007 — Star Wars Trailer (4)

Ah, what memories. Here's the original Star Wars trailer from 1977:

It's amazing this film ever succeeded with marketing like this!

You know, I don't remember ever seeing this trailer, even though I saw the movie multiple times. I think that after the first few days it was out, the trailer was no longer needed as word of mouth spread.

And by "multiple times", I mean at least three, but no more than five times - I'm not THAT much of a geek!

All I would have needed was to see the light sabers...but to show my geekdom - 12 times in the theater (first run)!

What, was Don LaFontaine busy that day?

This is fascinating. I don't remember seeing this trailer at all. I don't remember there being as much advertising for movies on the tv then. All I remember was print ads and at the movie theater. We went to see Star Wars on the opening day. We were first in line. It wasn't midnight or anything like that, just at a regular time. They handed out buttons that read MAY THE FORCE BE WITH YOU on a blue back ground with all the stars. There is no date or any other indication of first day. Things were so different then.
